Diamondbacks drop another
The Diamondbacks had their losing streak move to three games following a 6-3 loss to Tampa on Tuesday night. Arizona is now 20-15 overall, 13-9 on the road and 20-14 with the over. Robbie Ray will be taking the mound tonight for the D’Backs. He is 2-1 on the season with a 3.79 ERA.
Arizona trailed the whole game, giving up a run in the first and never being able to get on track at the plate. The pitching staff gave up six runs on 12 hits with two walks. The Diamondbacks didn’t do much hitting until the ninth when Wilmer Flores and Carson Kelly each hit a solo home run to make the game look closer than it was. Both finished with two hits in the loss.
Rays looking for sweep
Tampa has been the dominant team in this series, picking up the 6-3 win on Tuesday to have an 18-4 run advantage through the first two games. The Rays have won four of their last five coming into today. Tampa is now 23-12 on the season, 11-7 at home and 19-15 with the under. The Rays send Charlie Morton to the mound today. He is 3-0 on the season with a 2.52 ERA.
The Rays led comfortably throughout the game, taking a 6-1 lead into the ninth before Arizona managed a few runs. Ryne Stanke, a reliever, got the start and pitched two scoreless inning with four strikeouts. He now has a 2.50 ERA on the season. At the plate, Brandon Lowe had a solo home run to get the scoring started in the first and he finished with two RBI while Mike Zunino also drove in two.
MLB Betting Trends
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 11-3 in their last 14 against winning teams, but just 2-7 in their last nine on fieldturf.
Tampa
The Rays have won their last four interleague games against a left-handed starter and 10-2 in their last 12 against NL West opponents.
Prediction:
The Rays have really been locked in on the mound so far in this series and Morton has been pretty steady for them there this season. Of his seven starts, six have seen him allow two runs or less and four have been one run or less. Ray certainly hasn’t been bad in his own right, but he has been a little more susceptible to giving up a big inning or two. Arizona hasn’t shown any ability to hit this Tampa pitching yet, so it’s hard to think Ray is going to get much in the form of run support.
MLB Prediction: Tampa Bay Rays -150
