Red Sox roll past White Sox
Boston won for the third straight game in its four-game series at Chicago with a 9-2 victory in Sunday’s finale. A seven-run eighth inning broke a 2-2 tie with a Xander Bogaerts grand slam providing the biggest highlight. The grand slam was the only hit for Bogaerts in five at-bats. Andrew Benintendi went 1-for-2 with three walks, a run and an RBI. Rafael Devers finished 2-for-5 with a double and two runs. Mitch Moreland ended the contest 2-for-3 with two walks, a run and two RBIs. Brandon Workman picked up the win in relief as he struck out one and walked one in an inning of relief. Josh Smith will make his first start of the season tonight for the Red Sox as he comes in having thrown one inning of relief with one strikeout at the MLB level this season.
Orioles postponed Sunday
After a shutout win by a count of 3-0 Saturday over Tampa Bay, Baltimore had its home series finale postponed by rain Sunday afternoon. In Saturday’s contest, Dwight Smith Jr. helped pace the offense by going 1-for-4 with a solo home run. Jonathan Villar was 1-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Steve Wilkerson finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run. Trey Mancini ended the contest 2-for-4. Dylan Bundy was stellar on the mound as he threw 7 1/3 innings of shutout baseball with three hits allowed, four strikeouts and one walk. John Means will start today for the O’s as he enters with a 3-3 record, 2.81 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with 25 strikeouts over 25 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox are 6-1 in their last seven road games. Boston is 21-5 in the last 26 meetings.
Baltimore
The Orioles are 22-52 in their last 74 home games. Baltimore is 9-42 in its last 51 games during game one of a series.
Prediction:
Means has pitched pretty well since joining the Orioles rotation, but the Boston offense has really heated up lately and I suspect we’ll see more of the same tonight. Smith has previously had MLB experience as a starter and should be able to navigate through the Orioles lineup while getting plenty of run support. I’m not taking any chances here and am putting my wager on the favorites.
