Dodgers’ Stripling struggles in start vs. Diamondbacks
Ross Stripling took the loss on Monday against the Diamondbacks, allowing four runs over four innings. Stripling gave up eight hits in the loss — two of them homers — and he also walked one while striking out two. He’s been excellent in relief, but Stripling didn’t show near the same level of effectiveness in this one, and it supports those who believe that his stuff plays better out of the bullpen. He’s likely heading back to the bullpen, although the Dodgers have yet to announce a start for their game on Saturday against the Padres.
Padres’ Lauer strikes out seven in second MLB start
Eric Lauer gave up three runs over five innings while striking out seven in a no-decision against the Giants on Monday. Lauer gave up three runs in the first inning, but settled down nicely in the second start of his MLB career. The biggest issue so far for the southpaw has been command, as he’s walked six hitters in his eight innings. If he can throw more strikes, the results should improve dramatically. His next start comes on Sunday when Lauer and the Padres face the Dodgers.
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 4-1 in their last five games in San Diego and are 35-16 in their last 51 games versus the Padres despite losing on Saturday.
San Diego
The over is 14-4-3 in the last 21 meetings between these two teams in San Diego and is 20-6-2 in the last 28 meetings between these two teams overall.
Prediction:
This is an underrated ‘over’ game on Sunday’s slate. The over is 5-1 in the Dodgers’ last six road games versus a team with a home winning percentage of less than .400 and is 7-3 in their last 10 games when their opponent scores five runs or more in their previous contest. On the other side, the over is 8-2 in the Padres’ last 10 home games, is 5-2 in their last seven games overall and is 6-1 in their last seven games when facing an opponent with a losing record.
The Pick: Dodgers/Padres over 9
