Blue Jays’ Garcia gives up five runs in loss to Rangers
Jaime Garcia allowed five runs over five innings in a loss to the Rangers on Saturday. It started off well, with Garcia fanning the first four batters he saw, but that success was short-lived. The Rangers ended up hanging three on the southpaw in the second inning and plated two more in the fourth, using five hits — including a pair of homers — and four walks to chase Garcia. He’s gotten progressively less effective with each passing outing, now owning a 5.40 ERA and 1.46 WHIP through five starts this year.
Indians’ Carrasco allows five runs in just three innings
Carlos Carrasco got smacked around for five runs — four earned — in just three innings and was charged with a loss to the Mariners on Saturday. Things got ugly fast as Jean Segura and Nelson Cruz both took Carrasco deep in the first inning. This was his first loss of the season following four wins. Even after today’s bad outing he still has a nice 3.08 ERA and 0.95 WHIP through six starts. He has a 32:7 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 38 innings. He will hope for better luck against the Blue Jays on Thursday.
