Jays fall under .500
Toronto began a West Coast road trip on Tuesday and had a 3-game win streak end in a 4-3 loss to the Angels. Toronto is now 14-15 on the season, 7-7 on the road and 18-11 with the under. Taking the mound for Toronto tonight is Marcus Stroman, who is just 1-3 on the year, but has a 1.43 ERA.
Toronto was fighting uphill most of the game, but couldn’t get the big hit down the stretch. Clay Buchholz got the start and gave up three runs over five innings. Ryan Tepera took the loss as he gave up a solo home run in the eighth, his lone inning of work. The Jays scattered five hits with Randal Grichuk being the lone player with two. Brandon Drury hit a solo home run, his fifth dinger of the year.
Angels heating up
Los Angeles is starting to gain some momentum, as the Angels have won four of their last five following last night’s victory. L.A. is 13-17 on the season, 9-7 at home and 18-12 with the under. Los Angeles has Felix Pena toeing the rubber tonight. He is 0-1 on the season with a 3.63 ERA.
The Angels were able to grab the win on Tuesday by scoring the game-winning run in the eighth on a Brian Goodwin solo home run. He finished the game with two hits, as did Andrelton Simmons. Jonathan Lucroy drove in two runs on a two-rum home run as well. Griffin Canning made his MLB debut on the mound and threw 4.1 innings, giving up the three runs. Los Angeles’ bullpen threw 4.2 innings, giving up just one hit.
MLB Betting Trends
Toronto
The Blue Jays are 7-1 in their last eight against AL West opponents, but just 2-6 in their last eight starts for Stroman.
Los Angeles
The Angels are 8-2 in their last 10 home games against a right-handed starter and 2-7 in their last nine against AL East opponents.
Prediction:
Stroman has been solid this season, but isn’t getting much run support. Over his last two starts, he has gone 15 innings and allowed just one run. Pena has struggled to get deep into games. He hasn’t exceeded five innings in any of his starts this year. The Angels don’t have a tremendous bullpen to turn to either. While Toronto was unable to finish the game last night, I think they will get the job done today thanks to Stroman.
MLB Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays -105
