Mets’ deGrom strikes out 10 in no-decision
Jacob deGrom was on his game while taking a no-decision in Saturday’s 4-3 loss to the Braves, striking 10 over the course of seven scoreless innings of work. A masterful outing from deGrom, who pitched brilliantly only to see his team squander a 3-0 lead over the final two innings of the game. Not only did he strike out 10, he walked just two while limiting the Braves to four total hits — only one of which went for extra bases. With this brilliant outing in the books, deGrom will carry a 2.53 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 40/8 K/BB ratio into a road start against the Padres. He has struck out 22 batters over his last two starts (covering 14 1/3 innings).
Padres’ Richard has setback on road vs. Diamondbacks
Clayton Richard allowed three earned runs, five hits and three walks with six strikeouts over five innings in a loss at Arizona on Saturday.
After turning in a quality start on March 29 in his first outing of the season he has allowed three or more runs while posting just five innings in each of his past four assignments. Walks have done him in and kept him from going deeper into the game, as he has yielded exactly three free passes in each of the past four outings. He’ll look to get on track on Friday against the visiting Mets.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 7-2 in their last nine games coming off a loss and are 6-1 in their last seven games versus a left-handed starter.
San Diego
The Padres are 1-5 in Richard’s last six starts versus the Mets.
Prediction:
This isn’t a bad price for the Mets with deGrom on the hill. I don’t generally back struggling team (and pay a price for it), but the Mets should have won Thursday afternoon in St. Louis. They blew multiple opportunities. The Mets are 11-1 in deGrom’s last 12 starts on Friday, are 4-1 in his last five outings versus the National League West, and are 13-3 in his last 16 starts when pitching the first game of a series. On the other side, the Padres are 1-4 in their last five games overall, are 1-7 in their last eight home games versus a right-handed starter, and are 0-4 in their last four starts versus National League East opponents.
MLB Prediction: New York Mets -158
