Yankees owning the Twins
The Yankees opened their series with the Twins on Monday, picking up a 14-1 victory. Minnesota has now lost five straight to the Yankees, with New York winning the last four by at least three runs. The Yankees are now 12-9 overall and 8-5 at home. New York is putting up 6.05 runs per game on offense while allowing just 4.81 per contest.
CC Sabathia makes his fourth start tonight. He has pitched just 13.1 innings over his first three starts and has a 2.70 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP. Sabathia has eight strikeouts with three walks.
Twins continue to fall
The Minnesota Twins have now lost four straight overall following the 14-1 loss at New York. They have allowed 40 runs over the four-game losing streak. Minnesota is now 8-9 overall and 3-6 on the road. The Twins are scoring 4.06 runs per game this year while allowing 4.94 per contest.
Jose Berrios gets the start for the Twins tonight. He is 2-1 through four starts with a 1.63 ERA and a 0.58 WHIP. He has definitely been Minnesota’s best arm this year, with three 7-inning performances. He has 29 strikeouts with just one walk.
MLB Betting Trends
Minnesota
The Twins have won four of Berrios’ last five starts overall, but just two of his last 12 road starts. They have lost his last six Tuesday starts as well.
New York
New York has won five straight against AL Central opponents this year and they have won nine of Sabathia’s last 12 starts when he gets four days of rest.
Prediction:
Berrios gives the Twins a chance tonight, as he could have another lights-out performance. However, he can’t count on his hitters to perform. Sabathia may not be able to last long, but I think he can compete against a Minnesota lineup that is struggling. The Twins don’t have the bullpen to keep the Yankees at bay. Eventually New York should bust the game open.
The Pick: New York Yankees -135
