Mariners Paxton has high ERA but he has pitched well
James Paxton allowed just one run over six innings in a 2-1 victory over the Astros on Monday. Paxton gave up a homer to George Springer to lead off the game, but he allowed just two more hits the rest of the evening, and he struck out seven.
Paxton still sports a 4.57 ERA, but tonight is a prime example of why he’s such a strong starter when he’s healthy. He’ll look to continue the run in his next start against the Rangers on Saturday.
Rangers’ Colon coming off near no-hitter vs. Astros
Bartolo Colon made a bid for history on Sunday, carrying a bid for a perfect game into the eighth inning against the Astros.
The 44-year-old hurler retired the first 21 hitters that he faced before walking Carlos Correa to lead off the eighth inning. Josh Reddick followed with a double, breaking up the potential no-hitter.
All told, Colon allowed just the one hit and a walk while striking out seven over 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball. He owns a ridiculous 1.45 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and 17/2 K/BB ratio across 18 ⅔ innings of work this season.
MLB Betting Trends
Seattle
The Mariners are 8-2 in Paxton’s last 10 starts when he’s coming off four days of rest.
Texas
The Rangers are 6-1 in their last seven games when playing the second gave of a series.
Prediction:
I took the under in the first game between these two teams and I’ll go right back to the well again tonight. The under is 8-1-2 in Paxton’s last 11 road starts, is 5-1-2 in his last eight outings overall and is 5-0-2 in his last seven outings coming off four days of rest. Paxton should limit the Rangers offensively and if Colon pitches anywhere near what he did in Houston last week the under should be in good shape.
The Pick: Mariners/Rangers under 9
