Rockies looking for rare road sweep
Not traditionally a great road team, Colorado is now 9-4 on the road this season following a 2-0 win over the Pirates on Tuesday. They have won six of their last seven overall and five of their last six on the road to move to 11-8 on the season.
Kyle Freeland gets the start today for the Rockies and he has a 4.50 ERA and 0-2 record through three starts. He has 15 strikeouts with seven walks over 16 innings and a 1.44 WHIP.
Pirates in a rut
After a strong start to the season, the Pirates have lost their last two to the Rockies, scoring just two runs in the two games. Pittsburgh has fallen to 11-6 overall and 4-4 at home.
Chad Kuhl will get the start for the Pirates this afternoon. He is 1-1 through three starts with a 5.74 ERA. Kuhl has allowed 10 earned runs over 15.2 innings and has 13 strikeouts with four walks and a 1.79 WHIP.
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado has dropped five of Freeland’s last seven starts overall, but they have won four of his last five road starts. The Rockies have also won four of their last five against a right-handed starter.
The Pirates have dropped nine of their last 11 games against a left-handed starter and four straight against a left-handed starter at home. However, Pittsburgh has won six of Kuhl’s last eight starts.
The Rockies are doing quite well on the road so far in 2018 and I think the pitching matchup today favors it as well. Freeland has the better numbers across the board compared to Kuhl and the Pirates have struggled at the plate in the first two games of this series.
The Pick: Colorado Rockies +105
