Cueto coming off an ankle injury and short disabled list stint
Johnny Cueto (ankle) will rejoin the Giants’ rotation on Tuesday in Arizona.
Cueto’s left ankle was still tender when he threw last week, but things went better when he threw Saturday, clearing the way for his return. The veteran right-hander is off to a fine start this season with just one run allowed in two outings. He’s worth starting in fantasy leagues even in a less than ideal matchup.
Diamondbacks’ Corbin has looked great to start 2018
Patrick Corbin allowed three earned runs, five hits and two walks with nine strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision Tuesday in San Francisco.
Corbin has been on point so far this season, striking out at least eight batters in each of his three starts. Tuesday marked the first time he didn’t etch his name into the win column, however. The good news is that he didn’t serve up a home run for the second consecutive outing after getting tagged for two in his initial appearance against Colorado back on March 29.
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The Giants are 5-0 in Cueto’s last five road starts versus the Diamondbacks and are 5-1 in his last six outings versus Arizona overall. That said, they’re just 1-4 in their last five games against the Diamondbacks as a team and have dropped seven of their last eight meetings in Arizona.
Arizona
The Diamondbacks have lost four of Corbin’s last five starts versus the Giants.
Prediction:
Despite the Giants’ issues offensively I like the over in this matchup. The over is a perfect 6-0 in Corbin’s last six starts against the Giants, is 4-0 in Cueto’s last four road starts versus the Diamondbacks, and is 4-0-1 in Cueto’s last five outings against Arizona overall. In the last 16 meetings between these two teams in Arizona, the over is 12-4 and is 5-2 in the last seven meetings overall.
The Pick: Giants/Diamondbacks over 8
