New York Mets Fantasy Spin
Jason Vargas got just one out while allowing four runs in his start against the Braves on Saturday. Mets manager Mickey Callaway told reporters that he expected “Vargas” when asked what he was expecting from the southpaw. Well, they got him. It’s a disaster of a start from the veteran southpaw, as he was able to only get one out while throwing 36 pitches and allowing five players to reach base. Simply put, Vargas is no longer a viable starter in real life or fantasy. The Cardinals are scheduled next for the 36-year-old.
Atlanta Braves Fantasy Spin
Ozzie Albies went 2-for-3 with two runs scored on Saturday in the Braves’ win over the Mets. Albies, 22, also drew a pair of walks. That gives the talented infielder seven walks over the first 14 games, which puts him on pace to draw 81 free passes. Cite the sample size if you must, but it’s awesome to see Albies getting on via bases on balls after working just 36 walks in 2018. Hitting at the top of that quality Atlanta lineup, Albies should put up big numbers — especially if he keeps showing this approach at the plate.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 4-1 in their last five games versus the Braves but are just 1-5 in Jacob deGrom’s last six starts versus Atlanta.
Atlanta
The Braves are just 2-5 in Julio Teheran’s last seven home starts versus the Mets.
Prediction:
These two teams provided a slugfest in Atlanta on Saturday night but I’m banking on the opposite being the case tonight. The under is 4-0 in Teheran’s last four home starts versus the Mets and is a perfect 6-0 in deGrom’s last six outings versus the Braves. The under is also 5-2 in Teheran’s last seven starts versus the Mets, is 6-2 in deGrom’s last eight road outings versus the Braves and is 3-1-1 in the last five meetings between these two teams overall.
The Pick: Mets/Braves UNDER 8.5
