Diamondbacks’ Walker coming off encouraging start vs. Cardinals
Taijuan Walker limited the Cardinals to one run over six innings in a no-decision Sunday. Walker pitched well, allowing three hits and walking two over his six innings, but Cardinals starter Luke Weaver was equally potent, leaving the game to be decided by the bullpens. Walker now owns a 3.27 ERA through two starts but has yet to factor into a decision.
Quotable: “I just went out there and attacked,” Walker told mlb.com, talking about the Cardinals game in particular, although he could have been referencing his 2018 attitude. “That’s kind of been my mindset coming into the season: Just go out there and attack with the fastball and get ahead, sprinkle my off-speed pitches in there, and just try to make them put the ball in play.”
Dodgers’ Hill coming off poor outing vs. Giants
Rich Hill could only go four innings in his Saturday start against the Dodgers, giving up three runs. Hill also allowed five hits, and he walked two and struck out six. Outside of the strikeouts, it’s a rather forgettable start for the 38-year-old southpaw.
Quotable: “The way the ball is coming out of my hand, I’m way far ahead of where I was last year,” Hill said. “It’s a huge positive. To start that far ahead of where I was, and I hate to compare years, but I feel really good.”
MLB Betting Trends
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are now 4-0 in their last four games against the Dodgers and have won four of Walker’s last five starts versus L.A. as well.
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 4-0 in Hill’s last four starts coming off six days of rest and are 6-1 in his last seven home starts.
Prediction:
As bettors we’re always on the hunt for value, right? Well, it doesn’t get any better with a red-hot team getting plus odds at the betting window. The Diamondbacks are 4-1 in their last five road games and have won six of their last seven divisional contests as well. They have struggled a little with Walker on the hill (2-5 in his last seven starts overall), but they’re too good to pass up right now.
The Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks +150
