Davies inconsistent out of the gates for the Milwaukee Brewers
Zach Davies pitched six innings against the Cubs last Saturday, limiting Chicago to one run while striking out eight in the process. Granted, he faced a Cubs lineup that did not have Anthony Rizzo and Addison Russell but it was an important start after he allowed seven runs in his first outing of the year. In that start, he allowed seven runs (six earned) in 5 2/3 innings against the Cardinals. Davies struggled out of the gates last year, too.
On the injury front, Christian Yelich will go through on-field tests today after missing several games with an oblique injury. If the tests go well, perhaps Yelich will go through a quick minor-league assignment to get his timing back before rejoining the roster. Regardless, he should be back with the team soon.
Matz also uneven for the Mets
Steven Matz struggled to get through four innings against the Cardinals in his season-opener but he rebounded in a no-decision last Saturday versus the Nationals. He struck out eight over five innings while scattering three hits with two walks. He threw 93 pitches, 59 of which went for strikes. He needs to go deeper into games but at least he rebounded. He’ll look to build off that performance against a Brewers team that is dealing with injuries to their lineup.

The Brewers are 7-2 in their last nine games against the Mets but are just 2-7 in their last nine games in New York.
New York
The Mets are 7-1 in their last eight home games, are 14-3 in their last 17 games overall, and are 7-0 in their last seven games coming off a win.
Prediction:
The Mets are the hottest team in baseball to start the year and while they might start to fade at some point, there’s no sense fading them right now. The Brewers are 1-4 in Davies’ last five starts and like previously mentioned, their lineup is banged up right now. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the Mets are reasonably priced at -122.
The Pick: New York Mets -119
