San Diego Padres Bats Finally Wake Up in Denver
After scoring just five combined runs in three games against the Astros in Houston, it took a trip to Coors Field for the Padres’ bats to wake up on Monday night. Eric Hosmer struck out three times versus the Rockies but also went 2-for-5 and is now hitting .297 for his new team. Austin Hedges went 3-for-4 with an RBI double while pitcher Clayton Richard hit a three-run homer in the team’s 7-6 victory.
On Tuesday night the Padres hope to get another quality start out of Joey Lucchesi. He was excellent in his second major league start last Thursday against the Rockies, allowing just one hit in five innings. He did issue three walks but he struck out seven.
Colorado Rockies Look to Avoid Losing Streak
The only team currently in the National League West with a winning record is the Arizona Diamondbacks at 8-2 so the Rockies won’t freak out about their 5-6 record to start the season. That said, after getting shut out 4-0 by the Braves at home and allowing seven runs to the punchless Padres last night, the Rockies would love to avoid a third straight loss at home.
Tyler Anderson might be the right guy to stop the bleeding for the Rockies. He fired six scoreless innings in his last start but earned a no-decision in Colorado’s victory over San Diego. It was a major turnaround for Anderson, who was brutal in his first start of the season. He scattered four hits, didn’t walk a single batter and struck out four.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres are 5-12 in their last 17 games versus the Rockies despite their victory last night. They have also dropped 11 of 15 in Colorado.
Colorado
The Rockies are 2-5 in their last seven games versus left-handed pitchers and have dropped five of six at home entering tonight’s game.
Prediction:
Call it the “Tin Cup” effect but I’m going back to the under. Fair warning: I’ve blown the total in every Rockies game since last Friday. It’s just bad luck at this point but feel free to fade me tonight as I go right back to the total.
These two teams are not going to do what they did last night by scoring 15 runs again. Austin freaking Hedges even hit last night and he’s one of the worst offensive players in baseball. Colorado was shutout two nights ago at home and San Diego mustered just five runs in its entire series at Houston before traveling to Colorado. This total is set too high. Now look for a 20-17 slugfest.
The Pick: Padres/Rockies under 10.5
