Texas Rangers Fantasy Spin
Joey Gallo hit a three-run home run to lead the Rangers to an 11-4 win over the Angels on Thursday. In hindsight, it should have been an indication that it might be a long night for Angels starter Matt Harvey when Gallo, as the fourth batter of the game, crushed a center-cut fastball for a three-run homer. The Rangers would eventually get to Harvey for eight of their 11 runs. The home run was the second this year for Gallo, and his slash line is already in midseason form, sitting at .227/.433/.545 through Thursday.
Los Angeles Angels Fantasy Spin
Mike Trout went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in a loss to the Rangers on Thursday. Trout got on the board with his first home run of the year in the third inning, golfing an Edinson Volquez breaking ball out to center field for a 422-foot shot. He also singled in the contest. Despite Thursday bringing his first long ball of the year, Trout has gotten out of the gates fast in the season’s first week — after Thursday’s game, he’s hitting .350 with a 1.117 OPS on the year.
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The Rangers are 8-20 in their last 28 road games and 4-12 in their last 16 games versus a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30.
Los Angeles
The Angels are 7-22 in their last 29 home games versus an opponent with a road winning percentage of greater than .600.
Prediction:
The Angels are scuffling so if oddsmakers are going to continue to give us plus odds with L.A.’s opponents then I’ll take the dogs. The Halos are 0-5 in their last five games, are 0-4 in Pena’s last four starts versus an opponent with a winning record and are 0-5 in their last five divisional games. The Rangers, meanwhile, are 5-1 in their last six games overall and have won four of their last five games versus a right-handed starter.
The Pick: Texas Rangers +110
