Chicago White Sox Fantasy Spin
Reynaldo Lopez allowed three runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings Tuesday in a Cactus League start against the Reds. Lopez registered only two strikeouts and issued three walks. He was cruising along in the early stages of the contest until Yasiel Puig tagged him for a two-run single in the fifth inning. He was also charged with another run after departing when Matt Kemp plated Nick Senzel with an RBI single in the seventh. The 25-year-old righty has allowed 10 runs on 18 hits with 14 strikeouts and seven walks over 15 2/3 innings this spring.
Kansas City Royals Fantasy Spin
Jakob Junis allowed two runs on five hits over five innings Tuesday in a Cactus League start against a Cubs split-squad. Junis struck out five batters and only issued a pair of walks. The 26-year-old righty has generated plenty of buzz this spring, thanks to a significant uptick in his average fastball velocity. He’s given up eight runs on 17 hits with 13 strikeouts and four walks over 12 1/3 innings of work. He’s already been named to the Royals Opening Day rotation and should be on the fantasy radar in deeper mixed leagues.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The White Sox have won just once in their last six games at Kauffman Stadium but they are 6-1 in Lopez’s last seven starts versus the Royals.
Kansas City
The Royals have not been profitable when Junis starts. In his last 20 outings, Kansas City is just 6-14.
Prediction:
As mentioned in the introduction of this article, the total has moved a full run off the opening number. After hitting most boards at 8.5, the over/under now sits at 7.5. The initial value is gone, but I still like the under. Lopez has not enjoyed much success at the big league level but Kauffman plays big and the Royals struck out 20.9% of the time versus right-handed pitchers last year. Now, the White Sox do have some power in their lineup, but they also struck out 25.8% of the time against right-handed pitching in 2018. The under is 6-0-1 in the previous seven meetings between these teams at Kauffman and is 3-0-1 in the last four meetings overall.
The Pick: White Sox/Royals under 7.5
