Reed wins first PGA event of 2015
KAPALUA, HI (TheSpread) – It took an extra hole, but Patrick Reed found himself the winner in the first PGA Tour event of 2015, as he won the Hyundai Tournament of Champions on Monday.
Reed shot a 6-under 67 on Monday to get to -21 for the tournament, which tied Jimmy Walker for the best score. Walker shot a 69 on Monday to get to the top spot. In the first playoff hole, Reed carded a 4 while Walker settled for a 5, giving Reed the victory.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Reed came into this tournament with 22/1 odds to win, which means a wager of $100 on him to prevail will pay out an additional $2,200.
Reed was steady all weekend, shooting a 67, 69, 68 and then another 67 today. One person that made a big run on Monday was Jason Day, who shot an impressive 11-under 62 on Monday to finish at -20 for the tournament. Russell Henley and Hideki Matsuyama also finished at -20 for the tournament. Pre-tournament favorite, Bubba Watson, finished in 10th by himself after shooting -15 for the event.
