According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Norway is favored to win the gold in Rio, as it has +160 odds. Other short odds to win are Russia (+335) and Brazil (+665). The Rio Olympics take place from August 5-21 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Norway has won the gold medal in the last two Olympic Games. They also won the World Championships in 2015 and 2011. They also have won five of the last six European Championships.
Russia placed eighth at the 2012 Olympics and were second in the 2008 Olympics. Russia won the gold four times at the World Championships from 2001-2009, but they have failed to medal in the last three World Championships.
Brazil has yet to medal in women’s handball at the Olympics. They finished sixth at the 2012 games and ninth in 2008. They did, however win the 2013 World Championship before finishing 10th in 2015.
