Saturday’s Olympics Picks

The 2018 Winter Olympics conclude with their final events on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Here’s our predictions for the final day.

Men’s Hockey: Russia vs. Germany

The road to gold for the Russian hockey team got a little easier, with Germany upsetting Canada in the semifinals According to oddsmakers at YouWager, Russia is the clear favorite to win, as it has -700 odds. Germany is listed with a money line of +450 to prevail. Russia has been rolling as of late and has won its two tournament games by a combined score of 9-1. Germany had the big upset to get here, but it barely qualified for the tournament portion itself. The Germans are a great story, but completely outmatched in this game. The odds are not ideal, but Russia seems like a slam dunk to win. MEN’S HOCKEY PREDICTION: RUSSIA -700

Women’s Curling: Sweden vs. South Korea

In the gold medal match of women’s curling, oddsmakers see Sweden as the slight favorite. It is listed with odds of -140 to win this match, while South Korea is getting odds of +110 to prevail. South Korea had the top seed entering the semifinals while Sweden was the second seed. South Korea had to go to 11 ends to beat Japan, 8-7, while Sweden hammered Great Britain 10-5. During round robin play, South Korea edged Sweden, 7-6. The host team has only really had trouble with Japan, losing its only match of the Olympics to them before avenging it in the semifinals. South Korea has scored the most points and allowed the fewest in the games. It also has the home crowd behind it. Sweden may be the power in curling in these games, but I will go with South Korea to pull off another minor upset. WOMEN’S CURLING PREDICTION: SOUTH KOREA +110

4-Man Bobsled

The 4-man bobsled event will conclude later tonight with its final runs. Odds are listed by driver of the sled and Francesco Friedrich of German is favored to win gold with -300 odds. Other short odds to win are Yunjong Won of Korea and Nico Walther of Germany. Friedrich’s team has the top time through the first two runs of 48.54 and 49.01. They were the fastest runs for each heat and a new track record in the first go-around. South Korea wasn’t far behind, but it will be tough to make up those times over the final two runs without Germany having a big mistake. 4-MAN BOBSLED PREDICTION: FRANCESCO FRIEDRICH -300
