Atigun’s Belmont Odds & Preview
ELMONT, NY (The Spread) – After claiming victory in his last race, 2012 Belmont Stakes contender Atigun looks to surprise this Saturday at Elmont Park.
Oddsmakers currently view Atigun as a 35/1 long shot to win this Saturday’s Belmont Stakes while Triple Crown contender I’ll Have Another is a 27/20 favorite. Dullahan has the next best odds at 15/4 while Union Rags is 4/1 and Paynter is 8/1.
Atigun won an Allowance on May 5 but hasn’t fared well in graded stakes throughout his career. He placed fifth at the Grade II Kentucky Jockey Club on November 26 and finished 11th at the Grade II Rebel on March 17. He had a better showing at the Grade I Arkansas Derby but still finished fifth behind Bodemeister, Secret Circle and Sabercat (among others).

Brereton C. Jones is Atigun’s breeder while Kenneth G. McPeek is his trainer. He enters the Belmont Stakes with a career record of 9-3-1-0 and has posted a Best Beyer of 89. Because of his limited experience in graded stakes he might be worth a look as a long shot but chances are he’ll finish out of the money this weekend.
This will be the 144th running of the Belmont Stakes, with the post time scheduled for 6:35PM ET. I’ll Have Another will attempt to become the 12th Triple Crown winner after he was the 33rd horse to win the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.
