Super Saver Update
Fast, Grade 2 winner Super Saver will have a chance to upset the field on Saturday when he races in the 136th running of the Kentucky Derby.
Recent History:
Super Saver claimed a victory at the G2 Kentucky Jockey Club on November 28 of last year and finished second at the G1 Arkansas Derby behind Line of David on April 10.
Super Saver opened at 10/1 to win the 2010 Kentucky Derby and then was 14/1 after the post positions were drawn earlier this week. According to oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, Super Saver is now 12/1 to win at Churchill Downs.
The 3-year-old colt will start in the No. 4 post position, which has produced 10 Kentucky Derby winners since 1900. Only the rail and No. 5 post positions have claimed more victories.
Outlook:
Super Saver has never finished worse than fourth and might be in store for a breakthrough performance this Saturday. Calin Borel, who is seeking his third Kentucky Derby win in the last four years including his second consecutive victory, will ride Super Saver. One knock against Super Saver is trainer Todd Pletcher, who is 0-for-24 in nine Kentucky Derby races. The problem is that he runs close to the pace and his best Beyer was a slow 98. He might finish in the top 3, but could have trouble winning.
