The Hurt Locker Odds
While the film “Avatar” is expected to run away with this year’s Best Picture award for the 2010 Academy Awards, “The Hurt Locker” still could spring an upset.
“The Hurt Locker” is a 2008 American war thriller directed by Kathryn Bigelow, starting Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie and Brian Geraghty. The three stars are members of a U.S. Army EOD unit whose jobs are to defuse bombs during the Iraq War. As the film builds to its climax, tension among the three starts to form.
Over its first weekend in United States theatres, the film grossed $145,352,000. As of October 3, 2009, “The Hurt Locker” grossed a total of more than $16 million worldwide.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com, “The Hurt Locker” is +120 on the money line, which makes the film an underdog to “Avatar” (-250 on the money line). “Up in the Air” is +800 on the money line, while “The Blind Side” is +1500 and “Inglorious Basterds” is +1400.
Along with the Best Picture category, “The Hurt Locker” has also been nominated for Best Score, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Cinematography and Best Film Editing.
