Inglourious Odds
The 2009 war film “Inglourious Basterds” will face stiff competition to win Best Picture at this year’s Academy Awards, but maybe it can pull off an Oscars upset.
“Inglourious Basterds” was written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and starred Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz and Melanie Laurent. The plot revolves around two plots to assassinate Nazi Germany’s political leadership, one carried out by a young French Jewish theater owner (Laurent), and the other by a team of Jewish Allied soldiers led by Pitt.
The film earned $14.3 million in its opening night and $38 million in its first weekend. It wound up grossing a very successful $320,351,733 in theaters worldwide, making it Tarantino’s highest-grossing film of all-time.
Along with Best Picture, “Inglourious Basterds” has been nominated for Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Cinematography and Best Film Editing. In total, “Inglourious Basterds” is up for eight nominations for the 2010 Academy Awards.
The film will receive stiff competition from “Avatar”, “The Hurt Locker” and “Up in the Air”. “Avatar” is currently –250 on the money line, while “The Hurt Locker” is +120 and “Up in the Air” is +800.
