Buckeye’s, Texas Roll; Irish Hang On Ohio State took its first step toward a National Championship on Saturday with a 35-12 victory over Northern Illinois. The Buckeye’s who scored 21 unanswered points in the first quarter were led by Heisman hopeful QB Troy Smith. Smith was 18-25 for 299 yards and three touchdowns. Two of those touchdowns were to Ted Ginn Jr. Ginn had four catches for 123 yards and returned two punts for 44 yards and two kickoffs for 25 more yards. Iowa St. Win’s by 2 in Triple OT In the season opener for Iowa State they did something they have never done before, win in overtime. And what a win it was. The Cyclones (1-0) beat Toledo (0-1) 45-43 in a triple overtime stunner. Todd Blythe caught a pair of touchdown passes in OT and Quarterback Bret Meyer added three TD runs for Iowa State, which picked up its first OT win in six tries. The win came after Toledo receiver Chris Hopkins couldn’t hold on to a potential tying two-point conversion pass on the goal line.
