The Seattle Mariners are hoping that their snake-bitten bad luck won’t get them again in 2009 like it did in their disastrous 2008 campaign.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have made the Mariners 70/1 long shots to win the 2009 World Series and established their American League Pennant odds at 40/1.

The Mariners have one of the better young rotations in the American league, headlined by ace Erik Bedard and continuing with Felix Hernandez and Carlos Silva. And if Jarrod Washburn is on, he can prove to be frustrating to hit as well.

The M’s have some good young talent in Yuniesky Betancourt, Brandon Morrow and Franklin Gutierrez. The ever-productive Irchrio continues to be one of the best pure hitters in baseball and Adrian Beltre kicks in with power. But Seattle has to stay healthy and on a whole, the club will have to overachieve if they want to make a run in 2009.
