Chris Sale walks to the mound at Yankee Stadium on Saturday afternoon with a 2.08 ERA and a Braves club sitting atop the National League East. That hands the early window the loudest pitching matchup on a busy Saturday card. The rest of the day gives bettors just as much to sort through. An overbet favorite waits in Philadelphia, and the most lopsided public game on the board tips off in Kansas City.
Our three best bets are spread across the schedule to match. We have an afternoon total in the Bronx, an early-evening moneyline in the Northeast, and a late run-line lean in the Midwest. Each lean rests on the starting pitching, the line movement, and where the public money has piled up.

Early Game — Atlanta Braves at New York Yankees
Atlanta Braves vs. New York Yankees — Time & How to Watch
| Where | Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY |
| When | Saturday, August 8 – 3:05 PM ET |
| TV | YES Network |
This is the best arm on the Saturday board against a Yankees lineup that has cooled at the plate. Sale carries a 12-6 record and a 2.08 ERA into the Bronx. Gerrit Cole answers for New York at 5-5 with a 3.42 ERA, respectable but a clear step below his rival. Two starters this stingy point toward a low-scoring afternoon.
The run-prevention numbers back that up. Atlanta allows just 3.89 runs per game, and the Yankees are right there at 3.83 allowed. Neither offense has been overpowering of late. The Braves have won eight of their last ten and sit at 70-46, while New York enters at 65-51 and stays in the American League East chase. Strong pitching on both sides usually keeps the scoreboard quiet.
The market has noticed. The total opened at 7.5 with the under priced at plus money, and it has since moved to Under 7.5 at -115. That shift shows money backing the low-scoring side despite the short porch in the Bronx.

The Pick: Under 7.5 (-115)
Sale gives Atlanta a genuine ace, and both bullpens have been reliable all season. With two staffs allowing under 3.9 runs per game, the under has real support at this number. The case against is straightforward, however. Yankee Stadium’s short right-field porch can turn one mistake into a two-run swing, and both lineups carry enough power to clear 7.5 in a hurry. Still, the pitching edge and the line movement both point under, and 7.5 offers enough cushion for a measured lean.
Mid-Day Game — Toronto Blue Jays at Philadelphia Phillies
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Philadelphia Phillies — Time & How to Watch
| Where | Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, PA |
| When | Saturday, August 8 – 6:05 PM ET |
| TV | NBC Sports Philadelphia |
Both starters arrive with ugly season ERAs, which makes this a tricky game to price. Max Scherzer takes the ball for Toronto at 1-4 with a 7.92 ERA, though that mark is skewed by a small, injury-interrupted sample. He looked sharp in his latest start, allowing one run over six innings against St. Louis. Aaron Nola counters for Philadelphia at 3-9 with a 5.55 ERA and has fought through most of a frustrating season.
Philadelphia owns the better résumé at 62-55 and second place in the National League East. Toronto sits at 55-62 but took Friday’s opener 5-4 and has gone 6-4 over its last ten. The Blue Jays have quietly played competitive baseball, while the Phillies are just 5-5 across their last ten games.
The betting market tells the real story here. Philadelphia has been bet up to -172 on the moneyline, with roughly eight in ten tickets on the home side. Yet the projected margin sits close to a coin flip. That gap between the price and the projection is where the value hides.
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Philadelphia Phillies Odds

The Pick: Toronto Blue Jays Moneyline (+142)
When a near-even game gets priced like a mismatch, the underdog offers value, and Toronto at +142 fits. Scherzer’s recent start suggests his ERA overstates the risk, and the Blue Jays are swinging the bats well enough to win outright. The case against is clear. Philadelphia is the better team at home, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is nursing hamstring tightness that could keep Toronto’s top hitter out of the lineup. For a fuller look, see our Blue Jays-Phillies breakdown. Even so, +142 on a coin-flip game is a price worth taking.
Late Game — Chicago Cubs at Kansas City Royals
Chicago Cubs vs. Kansas City Royals — Time & How to Watch
| Where | Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, MO |
| When | Saturday, August 8 – 7:10 PM ET |
| TV | Marquee Sports Network |
The arms tilt this one decisively toward Chicago. Clay Holmes brings a 2.39 ERA to the mound for the Cubs and has been excellent since a midseason move to the rotation. Seth Lugo starts for Kansas City at 4-7 with a 4.41 ERA. That is a meaningful gap in run prevention between the two starters.
The standings tell the same story. Chicago is 67-49 and has won seven of its last ten. Kansas City has fallen to 48-68 and sits near the bottom of the American League Central. The Royals have gone 4-6 over their last ten and have little left to chase in August.
This is the most lopsided public game on the Saturday board. About 82 percent of run-line tickets and 92 percent of moneyline tickets sit on the Cubs. Normally that kind of public flood is a warning sign. Here, though, the line barely moved. Chicago opened around -165 and sits -164, so the price never got taxed.
Chicago Cubs vs. Kansas City Royals Odds

The Pick: Chicago Cubs Run Line -1.5 (-105)
Holmes gives the Cubs a large edge on the mound, and Chicago’s offense has been one of the better units in the league. Laying 1.5 runs at -105 against a fading Royals team is fair value, especially with the number never inflating. The case against is the nature of the run line itself. Baseball is volatile, Lugo can be competent when his curveball lands, and one late Kansas City rally can push this to within a run. Our full Cubs-Royals preview digs deeper, but the pitching gap makes the Cubs run line the lean.
Today’s MLB Best Bets Recap
Saturday’s card gives us three angles across the day. In the afternoon, the Sale-Cole matchup at Yankee Stadium points to the under at 7.5. In the early evening, the overbet Phillies open the door to value on the Toronto Blue Jays moneyline. Late, the Chicago Cubs run line stands out behind a clear pitching edge in Kansas City. One total, one moneyline, and one run line, spread from the Bronx to the Midwest.
