Phillies vs. Rangers Prediction

Are the Rangers a good bet to beat the Phillies on the runline tonight when the two teams meet at 8:05PM ET in Arlington?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Rangers are -200 money line favorites versus the Phillies, who have odds of +165 to pull off the upset in Arlington. With Jerad Eickhoff set to face Yu Darvish in the pitching matchup, the over/under currently sits at 8.5 runs.

From Rotoworld: Eickhoff had the shortest outing of his career Tuesday, allowing five runs over just 3 2/3 innings against the Mariners. Eickhoff held the M’s hitless through 2 2/3, but a two-out Ben Gamel single in the third was followed by a Robinson Cano homer to get Seattle on the board. He then loaded the bases before escaping, but more trouble awaited him in the fourth when Gamel drilled a three-run homer. Eickhoff has now been roughed up in three straight outings, but he had a 2.55 ERA in his first four starts.

Darvish surrendered a pair of home runs but turned in a quality start in a no-decision effort versus the Padres on Wednesday. He gave up three runs on seven hits in six innings of work. He struck out six batters without issuing a walk. Both homers were of the solo variety, with Wil Myers taking him deep in the first inning and Erick Aybar in the second. Darvish’s record holds at 3-2 with a 2.96 ERA after eight starts. He has 52 strikeouts and 21 walks in 51 2/3 innings.

Bet Tonight’s Phillies vs. Rangers Game

OUR PREDICTION: The Rangers are hot. They’ve won six in a row and five straight at home. They’re also 4-0 in their last four home games versus a right-handed starter, are 4-0 in their last four games versus National League East opponents, and are 4-0 in Darvish’s last four outings.

The Phillies, meanwhile, are not. They’ve lost nine of 11 overall, are 1-4 in their last five games versus American League West opponents, and are 1-6 in Eickhoff’s last seven starts. If you feel comfortable laying -200 on the Rangers, great. If not, the runline offers better value at slightly more risk.
