Broncos love being an underdog

We are one week away from Super Bowl 50 and the Denver Broncos remain a sizable underdog in its matchup with the Carolina Panthers.

According to oddsmakers at RealBets, Carolina is currently holding steady as a 5.5-point favorite for Super Bowl 50 against the Broncos. The over/under total is currently listed at 45 points. These two meet on Sunday, Feb. 7 at 6:30PM ET from Leviโ€™s Stadium. The game will air live on CBS.

Despite having the top record in the AFC this season, plenty have doubted the Broncos on the road to Super Bowl 50. A lackluster offense all season led many to believe they just didnโ€™t have what it takes to reach the Super Bowl, let alone win it. But, despite ranking just 19th in points scored, the Broncos have surged to the AFC Championship being a defense that allows the fewest yards in the NFL.

Being the underdog isnโ€™t something completely foreign to the Broncos. Denver has been an underdog five times throughout this season and the playoffs and they are a perfect 5-0 at the betting window in those games. They picked up a 31-24 win over the Chiefs in KC as a 3-point underdog on Sept. 17. Denver then won 29-10 at home over the Packers as a 2.5-point dog. The Broncos were a 2.5-point underdog at home vs. the Patriots on Nov. 29, but won 30-24 in OT. They were also an underdog of 7.5 points at Pittsburgh on Dec. 20, but lost by just 7 at 34-27. Then, the Broncos were a 3-point home underdog against the Patriots in last weekโ€™s AFC Championship, but of course won 20-18. Is Denver relishing this role as a 5.5-point underdog in the Super Bowl? Will they make it 6-0 against the spread?
