Kiffin returning to Alabama
TUSCALOOSA, AL (TheSpread) – After rumors that he may move to the NFL to be an assistant, Alabama announced that Lane Kiffin will be returning to the team as the OC this weekend.
Kiffin was being linked to being the OC for the San Francisco 49ers, but he will instead remain with the Crimson Tide for a second year of calling the offense under Nick Saban.
“We’re very pleased and happy that Lane is going to be staying here at the University of Alabama with us,” Saban said in a statement. “He’s done a fabulous job and is one of the finest offensive coaches in the country. He is going to have plenty of opportunities in the future and we want to continue to help him develop as a coach so when he leaves here, he’ll be in a very good situation. Our offense was extremely productive last season and we look forward to building on some of the good things we did on that side of the ball with this year’s team.”
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Alabama currently has 9/1 odds to win the 2016 College Football Playoffs, which ranks them third amongst shortest odds. Ohio State is the favorite at 5/1, while TCU has 15/2 odds.

Alabama ranked 16th nationally in offense, averaging 36.9 points per game. The Tide posted 277.9 passing yards per game while rushing for 206.6 yards per contest. Both of those ranked in the top 40 in the nation. Blake Sims threw for 3,487 yards and 28 touchdowns under Kiffin’s coaching and the big challenge for him will be to develop the next team’s quarterback, likely Jake Coker.
