Houston went just 2-14 last season, so the Texans decided to hire Bill O’Brien as its new head coach. Washington was 3-13 last season, and the Redskins hired Jay Gruden as its new head coach. These two have met three times in history, with Washington winning two of the three meetings.
Trends show that the Texans are 1-7 against the spread in their last 8 home games and 4-13 ATS in their last 17 games overall. Washington isn’t much better, going 1-5 ATS in its last 6 road games. The Skins have hit the under in 4 of their last 5 games on grass.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Houston is favored at home, as the Texans are getting odds of -3 points against Washington. The over/under total for the game has been set at 45 points (View Matchup). The opening odds for this game had Houston favored by 2.5 points. The spread dropped to a low of 1.5 points before making the climb up to 3 points. The over/under total opened at 46 points. It hit a peak of 46.5 points before falling back to 45.
Houston dropped its last 14 games of the season in 2013 after a 2-0 start. The Texans have plenty of talent, but things didn’t click last year. Offensively, Ryan Fitzpatrick will lead the offense and hope for Andre Johnson and Arian Foster to remain healthy. Defensively, the Texans should be very solid, especially up front. Houston signed stud defensive end J.J. Watt to a new deal this week and drafted Jadeveon Clowney with the top pick in the NFL Draft.
Washington had a disastrous 2013 season. Robert Griffin III never looked quite right after coming off offseason knee surgery. Jay Gruden hopes Griffin will look more like he did as a rookie this season. The team signed Desean Jackson at receiver to help Washington’s big-play ability. Jordan Reed is back from injury at tight end, which should also help Griffin come along. Defensively, Washington gave up over 350 yards per game, which also didn’t help matters. Those numbers will need to improve greatly.
In terms of Injuries, Houston guard Cody White (Achilles) is out for his game. Washington receiver Leonard Hankerson (knee) and tackle Morgan Moses (knee) are both questionable.
