Virginia is coming off a 2-10 season last year and an 0-8 mark in ACC play but is sticking with coach Mike London. UCLA is coming off a 10-3 season in 2013 where it went 6-3 in the Pac-12. These two have no recent meetings.
Trends show that UCLA is 4-0 against the spread in its last four non-conference games and 5-2 ATS in its last 7 road games. Virginia is just 3-11-2 ATS in its last 16 home games. The Bruins have also hit the under in their last six road games.
According to oddsmakers from BetDSI, UCLA is the clear road favorite, as the Bruins have odds of -21.5 points against the Cavaliers. The over/under total has been set at 57.5 points (View Matchup) The opening odds for this game had UCLA favored by 25 points. That was the highest the spread was. It hit a low of 21 this week before moving back to 21.5. The over/under total opened at 59.5 points and has slowly worked down to 57.5.
UCLA has a lot of expectations for this season, largely due to quarterback Brett Hundley, who is a Heisman contender. The junior threw for 3,071 yards and 24 touchdowns while rushing for 748 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. He will lead an offense that averaged 36.9 points and 448.5 yards per game in 2013. The Bruins have three starters back on the offensive line and two returning starters at receiver. Defensively, UCLA allowed 23.2 points and 387.1 yards per game last year. The unit will be led by linebacker Eric Kendricks, who had 106 tackles in 2013.
Virginia had four losses last season come by 11 points or less, so there is some hope for improvement this year for the Cavs, who return 15 starters. Running back Kevin Parks rushed for 1,031 yards and 11 touchdowns a year ago and will lead the offense this season. Virginia has just two starters back on the offensive line right now with injuries impacting the front five. Defensively, the Cavs gave up 33.3 points and 403.6 yards per game last year. Most of the eight starters that are back are in the back seven, led by safety Anthony Harris, who led the nation last year with eight interceptions.

In terms of Injuries, UCLA has no injuries to report for this game. Virginia defensive tackle Andrew Brown is questionable because of a toe injury while tackles Sadiq Olanrewaju and Jay Whitmire are both out.
