UFC 172 will take place from the Baltimore Arena in Baltimore, Maryland with the main card bouts airing live on PPV at 10PM ET.
The main event of Saturday’s card is a bout for the Light Heavyweight Title as Jon Jones (19-1) defends his title against Glover Teixeira (22-2). According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Jones is the favorite to win this fight, as he has odds of -550 to prevail. Teixeira has a money line of +375 to win. Jones has seemingly been unstoppable, as his lone loss came by controversial DQ back in 2009. His length causes a lot of problems for opponents as he is a strong striker and also dominant wrestler. Teixeira comes in 5-0 in the UFC and a very powerful striker that can end the fight with one punch, but he has yet to face the level of competition that Jones has. We also don’t know if Teixeira has the conditioning to go five rounds if need be.
The co-main event of Saturday’s event is also a light heavyweight clash, which features Phil Davis (12-1) taking on Anthony Johnson (16-4). Oddsmakers have Davis favored at home, as he has odds of -230 to win, while Johnson has a money line of +180 to prevail. Davis has won three straight coming into this bout. He uses his wrestling to control opponents and also has some strong submissions on the ground. Johnson is a strong striker that is returning to the UFC after struggling with making weight at lower weight classes. He has won six straight outside of the UFC and returning at a bigger weight class. He has the ability to end fights with one punch or kick and is hard to move around. However, his conditioning could be an issue against a fighter like Davis.
