UFC 169 will take place from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey with the main card bouts airing live on PPV at 10PM ET.
The main event of Saturday’s card is a bout for the UFC Bantamweight Championship as Renan Barao (31-1) defends his title against Urijah Faber (30-6). According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Barao is favored to win, as he has odds of -280 to prevail, while Faber has a money line of +220 to win. Barao was the interim champion and originally scheduled to fight the champ, Dominick Cruz, but Cruz got injured during training and Barao had the interim label dropped. Faber then took the fight on somewhat short notice. Barao earned the interim title with a decision win over Faber back in July of 2012 at UFC 149. Barao dominated that fight and he currently has a 31-fight unbeaten streak going, which has lasted since April of 2005. Faber just fought on Dec. 14, earning a second-round submission win over Michael McDonald. He has won four straight since the loss to Barao. This will be Faber’s third time fighting for a UFC title. He has lost his last five title fights.
The co-main event of Saturday’s card is for the UFC Featherweight Championship as Jose Aldo (23-1) defends his belt against Ricardo Lamas (13-2). According to oddsmakers, Aldo is the clear favorite to win, as he has odds of -650 to win, while Lamas has been given a money line of +425 to prevail. Aldo has been the champion of this weight class sicne 2009 and he is unbeaten in the UFC. He comes into this fight having won his last 16 fights. Lamas has won four straight fights, three straight by stoppage, but he has not fought in over a year, which could be an issue for someone fighting an opponent the level of Aldo.
