UFC Fight Night 33 will take place from Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Australia with the main card bouts airing live on the new FOX Sports 1 at 9PM ET on Friday.
The main event of Saturday’s card is a heavyweight battle between Mark Hunt (9-8) and Antonio Silva (18-5). According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Silva is the favorite to win this bout, as he has odds of -145 to win, while Hunt has a money line of +115 to prevail. Hunt is a compact and powerful striker. He will be undersized in regards to length in this fight as he is 5-10 while Silva is 6-4 with a tremendous wingspan. Hunt will still look to keep the fight standings while Silva may look to turn it into a grappling match. With this fight being scheduled for five rounds, conditioning could play a big role in the fight.
The co-main event of Friday’s card is a light heavyweight bout featuring Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (21-8) and James Te Huna (16-6). According to oddsmakers, Te Huna is a slight favorite, as he has odds of -125 to win, while Rua has been given odds of -105 to prevail. Te Huna is coming off a loss last May to top contender Glover Teixeira, but had won four straight prior to that. He has strong striking but is also good with his grappling due to his strength. Rua has lost two straight and four of his last six. He was submitted in the first round by Chael Sonnen in August. He is a dynamic striker, but isn’t terribly strong and relies on his submission fighting to win, along with his muay thai striking. Rua will need to win early because his conditioning has been a weakness in his fights, while Te Huna has shown the ability to grind out wins.
