UFC 165 will take place from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with the main card bouts airing live on PPV at 10PM ET.
The main event of Saturday’s card is a clash for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship as Jon Jones (18-1) defends his title against Alexander Gustafsson (15-1). According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Jones is the clear favorite to retain his title, as he has a money line of -800 for this fight, while Gustafsson has odds of +500 to win. Jones is seeking a sixth-successful title defense on Saturday and he has been dominant as champion, finishing four of the five challengers to his belt. Gustafsson has won six straight entering this title fight and he actually holds a small height-advantage over Jones, which has not been the case in the champion’s other bouts. Jones still has the reach on Gustafsson, but he may have trouble keeping the challenger at a distance. Gustafsson has good power in his hands and legs, but Jones should have the edge on the ground with wrestling and submissions.
The co-main event of Saturday’s card is a battle for the UFC Interim Bantamweight Championship with Renan Barao (30-1) defending his title against Eddie Wineland (20-8-1). According to oddsmakers, Barao is the clear favorite to retain his belt, as he has odds of -650 against Wineland, while the challenger has been given a money line of +425 to win. Barao hasn’t lost a fight since his debut in 2005 and he is 5-0 in the UFC with three decision victories. He has good power for a 135-pounder and is very deadly on the ground, with 14 of his wins coming by submission. Wineland has won two straight to get this title fight, but he has been beaten by men that Barao has ran through. Wineland is a powerful puncher and has great cardio, but it will take a KO for him to get the win, because he can’t out-class the champion for 25 minutes.
