LSU comes into the game at 13-0 on the year and SEC Champions while Alabama was 11-1 this season, losing only to LSU, back on Nov. 5 by a score of 9-6. The Tigers were 10-3 against the spread this season and Alabama was 8-4. The Tigers hit the over in 7 games on the year while the Crimson Tide hit the over just six times. LSU has won seven of the last nine meetings with Alabama.
Trends show that Alabama is 6-2 against the spread in their last 8 games at LSU. While this game is played at the Superdome, the Tigers will be somewhat in their backyard. Alabama has covered the spread in its last four games at a neutral site while LSU has covered in five of its last six bowl games.

Alabama as a team was actually 2-of-6 on field goal attempts, as they used two different kickers in the game. One was missed in overtime to set up the LSU victory. Alabama out-gained LSU 295-239 in the contest and both teams had two turnovers. The Tigers had success on the ground, rushing for 148 yards while Alabama had 199 passing yards. Alabama running back and Heisman finalist, Trent Richardson, was held to his third-lowest rushing total of the season of 89 yards and his second-lowest average yards per carry at 3.9 yards. LSU found its best offensive success with running back Michael Ford, who had 72 yards on 11 carries.
LSU went 13-0 on the season and 8-0 in the SEC and the Tigers beat eight ranked opponents throughout the season. The win over Alabama was the lone victory LSU had of single digits, the rest of the wins came by 13 points or more. LSU averaged 38.5 points per game on the year, which ranks 12th nationally, and they also have the 17th-best running game at 215.2 yards per game. Defensively, LSU allowed just 10.5 points per game, which ranked second in the country. LSU also ranked second in total defense, allowing only 252.1 yards per game, and in rushing defense, as they gave up a total of 1,111 yards rushing through 13 games.
Alabama went 11-1 on the year and 7-1 in the SEC. Aside from the loss to LSU, Alabama won every game by at least 17 points. The Crimson Tide averaged 36 points per game this season, which ranks 17th in the country. They also had the 14th best rushing attack, averaging 219.8 yards per game behind the effort of Richardson, who rushed for 1,583 yards and 20 TD’s this season. Defensively, none were better than Alabama, as they held opponents to just 8.8 points per game and 191.3 yards per game, both of which were best in the country. Alabama also led the nation in rushing defense, allowing just 899 total rushing yards on the season.
In terms of Injuries, Alabama linebacker Jonathan Atchison is questionable with a bicep injury while LSU quarterback Jarrett Lee is listed as probable to play despite some academic issues that have come up in the last month.
