Friday ALDS Betting Report
(The Spread) – The 2011 AL Divisional Series starts tonight. Check out the opening odds, trends and pitching matchups for both games.
The action kicks off this evening when the Texas Rangers host the Tampa Bay Rays at 5:07PM ET in Game 1 of this series. C.J. Wilson will take the mound for the Rangers, who have opened as –174 money line favorites against the Rays (+163). After throwing just 9.1 innings for the Rays this year, Michael Moore will take the hill for Tampa Bay tonight.
According to latest MLB trends, the Rangers are 4-1 in Wilson’s last five starts versus the Rays, while the over is 3-1-1 in his last five outings versus Tampa Bay. These two teams met in the ALDS last year, with both teams winning two games on the road before Texas closed things out in Game 5 in Tampa Bay. The Rangers then went on to lose to the Giants in the World Series.
In Game 1 of the other ALDS series, the New York Yankees will host the Detroit Tigers at 8:37PM ET. The Yankees will send ace CC Sabathia to the mound against the Tigers’ Justin Verlander. The Detroit ace finished with a dazzling 24-5 overall record and a 2.40 ERA. He hasn’t lost a start in 10 straight outings.
The trends are conflicting when it comes to these two teams. The over is 6-0 in the last six meetings between the Tigers and Yankees in New York, but the under is 2-0-2 in the last four meetings overall. The Tigers are also 4-1 in their last five games against the Yankees but just 1-4 in Verlander’s last five starts against the Bombers. Detroit is just 15-37 in its last 52 trips to New York as well.
