ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Rangers manager Ron Washington remembered a much different scene in the same clubhouse as champagne was being sprayed around and on him.
After the World Series ended last year with a five-game loss to San Francisco, Washington says the Rangers stood in the same room and committed themselves to get back to the playoffs. Now they have.
The Rangers waited more than a decade between playoff appearances before last year. Now they have won the AL West two seasons in a row after clinching Friday night. Texas and NL East champion Philadelphia are the only of the six division winners from last year to repeat.
C.J. Wilson (16-7) will start the opener for the playoff opener Friday.
