(The Spread) – We continue our look at the 2011 Belmont Stakes with a preview of Prime Cut, who will be making his Triple Crown debut this week.

Odds: When oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog released the opening odds for the 2011 Belmont Stakes, Prime Cut was listed at 20/1. He’s one of the few contenders whose odds haven’t changed since the opening odds were released.
Race History: Prime Cut finished third at the Grade 2 Peter Pan on May 14 and second at the Grade 3 Coolmore Lexington Stakes, proving that he can hang with graded competition. In six outings this year, he didn’t finish off the board once – in fact, his worse career finish came in his debut last June when he finished fourth at a MSW.
Outlook: If his race history is any indication, Prime Cut offers some value at 20/1. The problem is that he has never faced Grade 1 competition and has never raced in a mile and a half. But he should obviously be fresh after not running in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, which cannot be said for Belmont favorites Animal Kingdom and Shackleford.
