2011 Belmont Stakes Opening Odds
(The Spread) – Oddsmakers have released the opening odds for the 2011 Belmont Stakes and right now, three contenders are favored.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com currently list Animal Kingdom, Nehro and Shackleford as +400 on the money line, making them the favorites to win the 2011 Belmont Stakes, which will take place on Saturday, June 11.
Animal Kingdom: After surprising most of the horseracing world with his victory at the Kentucky Derby as a +3000 long shot, Animal Kingdom had his bid for a Triple Crown spoiled at the Preakness. He came out of the gates poorly and while he did recover to make an exciting push down the stretch run, Shackleford edged him out in the end. While he no long has the opportunity to win the Triple Crown, this impressive horse still hast he chance to claim two of the three legs with a win in the Belmont.
Shackleford: After setting the pace at Churchill Downs in early May, Shackleford fell to fourth at the Kentucky Derby. Then, after struggling to get into the gates at the start of the Preakness, he came out with a ball of fire and tore up Pimlico Race Course a couple of weeks ago. He held off a late-charging Animal Kingdom to win the Preakness and spoil Animal Kingdom’s bid at a Triple Crown. Now he has the opportunity to win the “rubber match” if you will with Animal Kingdom at the 2011 Belmont.
Nehro: Anyone who watched this year’s Kentucky Derby certainly has not forgotten about Nehro, even though he sat out of the Preakness. He finished second at Churchill Downs despite coming out of the No. 19 gate, which has never produced a Kentucky Derby winner. His odds also fell the day of the race but now he’s receiving his due as one of the favorites to win the Belmont. The top three in the Belmont will certainly be exciting to watch.
One other contender to keep an eye on at this year’s Belmont is Mucho Macho Man, who is +800 to win. He finished third at the Kentucky Derby and while he finished out of the money at the Preakness, he certainly has the talent to be one of the sleepers to win at Belmont Park in a couple of weeks.
