The Rams topped the Jayhawks 71-61 on Sunday and held a 14-point lead at halftime. VCU forced the Jayhawks into 14 turnovers and held them to 35 percent shooting from the floor and 9.5 percent shooting from 3-point land.
According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook SBGGLOBAL.com VCU had 150/1 odds to win the region, meaning a $100 wager on the Rams will pay out an additional $15,000.
The Rams came into the NCAA Tournament as part of the First Four. They defeated USC 59-46 just to make it into the round of 64 as the No. 11 seed.
From there, VCU went on to shock Georgetown 74-56 and Purdue 94-76 to reach the Sweet Sixteen. Even with the sizeable wins, VCU was still just given 10/1 odds to win the region heading into this weekend.
On Friday, VCU topped Florida State 72-71 in overtime and then shocked the basketball world with the upset of Kansas, who came into the game as the only No. 1 seed that was playing for a spot in the Final Four.
