Saturday NHL Opening Odds
(The Spread) – Eleven games make Saturday’s NHL schedule big one including a non-conference showdown in the afternoon between the San Jose Sharks and the Boston Bruins that will be aired on national television. Continue reading for opening lines and totals on all the NHL games for February 5, 2011.
The Boston Bruins (30-15-7) are currently the third seed in the Eastern Conference and will play host Saturday at 1:00PM EST to the San Jose Sharks (27-19-6, who as it stands now are the fifth-seeded team in the Western Conference. It will be aired live on NBC.
Oddsmakers and online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Bruins -130 favorites, while the over-under sits at 5.5. According to the latest trends, Boston is 1-1 versus San Jose over the past three seasons.
Since the All-Star break, the Bruins have won both of their games as they prevailed 3-2 at Carolina and 6-3 in a home game versus Dallas. The Sharks have been equally successful in their post All-Star contests with a 5-3 home win against Phoenix and a 4-3 victory at Anaheim.
Joe Thornton (14 goals, 32 assists) leads San Jose in scoring and Dany Heatley (19 goals, 26 assists) ranks second on the team in points. Patrice Bergeron (19 goals, 25 assists) paces Boston’s offense, while Mark Recchi (10 goals, 26 assists) is next on the team in scoring.
In other action, the Dallas Stars are at the Philadelphia Flyers for a 7:00PM EST start. Philadelphia is a -180 favorite and the over-under is 5.5. Los Angeles is at Calgary at 10:00PM EST with the Flames listed as a -125 favorite, while the over-under is set at 5.
