Tail or fade? Some bettors have made a habit of fading the public, which is why we’ve made things simple and have compiled the public’s top 5 favorites for Week 4 in the NFL. (For updated public betting information, check out our NFL Public Betting Information Page.)

The Public’s Top:

1) Green Bay Packers –2.5 83% (28,823 wagers)

2) Atlanta Falcons –3 82% (22,043 wagers)

3) New Orleans Saints –6.5 82% (24,441)

4) San Diego Chargers –6 82% (19,805)

5) Houston Texans –3 74% (15,680)

Analysis:

The Packers remain one of oddsmakers’ favorite teams to win the 2011 Super Bowl, so it’s no surprise that the public would be on Green Bay when its only giving up 2.5 points. That said, they’re a banged up football team right now and Washington has played well at home so far this year. Oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com have made the Packers 2.5-point favorites.

The Falcons survived a scare from the 49ers last week and now find themselves favorites again against a team that they should handle. But the Browns have had Atlanta’s number over the years and the Falcons are coming off an emotional win. Buyer beware.

The Saints are an attractive team this week because they’re playing a team that is starting an undrafted rookie quarterback. Due to the ineffectiveness of Derek Anderson, Max Hall will start for the Cardinals this Sunday against a banged up New Orleans team.

The Chargers crushed the Cardinals last Sunday, so it would make sense that they appear in the public’s top plays this week. San Diego takes on the struggling, but pesky Raiders as a 6-point road favorite in Week 5.

The Texans host the Giants this Sunday after edging out the Raiders 31-28 last Sunday. They’ll have receiver Andre Johnson back this week after the wideout missed the Oakland game with a high ankle sprain.
