No. 22 Auburn continues its quest to get into the national spotlight when it opens the 2010 season against Arkansas State at 7PM ET.
Auburn has won its last four season openers while the Red Wolves are just 1-17 in their last 18 road openers.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com currently list Auburn as 31-point favorites at home against Arkansas State. The over/under for the game has been set at 58.
Auburn went 8-5 last year under new coach Gene Chizik. The Tigers averaged 33.3 points and 212 rushing yards per-game in 2009 while giving up 27.5 points and 374 total yards per-game on defense. Auburn has 16 starters back this season, but on offense, the Tigers lose their quarterback Chris Todd and leading rusher Ben Tate. Defensively, Auburn has its linebacking group back as well as three of its four starters in the secondary.
Arkansas State went just 4-8 in 2009, but seven of those games were decided by 10 points or less. The Red Wolves have 11 starters back from last season, but like Auburn, lose their quarterback and leading rusher, as well as their top two receivers. On defense, Arkansas State was respectable, giving up just 23.3 points and 341 yards per-game. The Wolves return their four leading tacklers this season as well.
