Johnson led the Yellowjackets to a 9-4 record in 2008 in his first year as coach. The 9-4 mark was the best record for Georgia Tech since 2000. This year, the Yellowjackets open the 2009 season ranked 15th in the nation and have 18 starters back from last season. Georgia Tech averaged 273 yards rushing per-game in 2008 and have their top five rushers back this season, led by preseason ACC Player of the Year, Jonathan Dwyer, who rushed for 1,395 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2008. Quarterback Josh Nesbitt is also back, but Nesbitt threw for just 808 yards last season, but did rush for 693 yards with seven touchdowns. On defense, Georgia Tech has safety Morgan Burnett back. Burnett co-led the nation in interceptions last season with seven, to go along with 93 tackles.
