NFL Week 7 Betting Recap
Week 7 had to be one of the more bizarre weeks of the 2010 NFL season. From controversial calls to quarterbacks who threw more to the opposing team than their own receivers, Week 7 had it all. Read on to check out who covered and who didn’t on Sunday.
The biggest upset on the Week 7 schedule occurred in New Orleans, where the Cleveland Browns knocked off the defending Super Bowl champion Saints 30-17 as 12-point underdogs. That’s now three years in a row the Browns have beaten the defending champs.
There was no upset in Kansas City, as the Chiefs crushed the Jaguars, 42-20. KC was a 9-point home favorite over Jacksonville, which was forced to start Todd Bouman due to injuries to David Garrard and Trent Edwards.
In Tennessee, the Titans used a 27-point fourth quarter to easily cover the 3-point spread over the Eagles. Tennessee went on to beat Philadelphia 37-19 despite trailing heading into the fourth quarter.
The Falcons covered as a 3.5-point favorite, although things looked bleak for the Dirty Birds in the third quarter when the Bengals scored 22 points. Atlanta went on to beat Cincinnati, 39-32.
In Chicago, Jay Cutler was an utter disaster, throwing four interceptions (all to DeAngelo Hall) and fumbling at the goal line in the Bears’ 17-14 loss. Washington covered as a 3-point road dog.
A controversial finish decided the game in Miami, as the Steelers beat the Dolphins 23-20, although they failed to cover the 3-point spread. The Dolphins settled for five field goals despite moving the ball rather consistently against the Steelers’ vaunted defense.
The Bucs beat the Rams 18-17 in Tampa, but failed to cover as a 3-point favorite. They could have pushed had they converted a 2-point conversion with under 20 seconds remaining in the game, but quarterback Josh Freeman was stopped short of the goal line.
In Baltimore, the Bills nearly shocked the Ravens, who won 37-34 in overtime. The Bills scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to tie the game, but they came up just short. They did cover as 12-point underdogs, however.
The Panthers earned their first win of the year by beating the 49ers, 23-20. Carolina covered as a 1-point home favorite, while the combined score went over the posted total of 36.5 points.
The Seahawks beat NFC West rivals the Cardinals 22-10 on Sunday. The Hawks covered as a 6.5-point favorite as the combined score fell under the posted total of 40.5 points.
In one of the most shocking scores of the day, the Raiders crushed the Broncos 59-14 despite being a 7-point underdog. The combined score obviously sailed over the posted total of 43 points.
Despite their fourth quarter comeback, the Chargers fell just short of the Patriots on Sunday. San Diego lost 23-20 and failed to cover as a 2.5-point home favorite.
On Sunday Night Football, the Packers benefited from three Brett Favre interceptions to beat the Vikings, 28-24. Green Bay covered as a 2.5-point favorite, while the combined score went over the posted total of 43.5 points.
