Two teams who changed their image over the offseason clash at Giants Stadium on Friday night as the New York Jets host the St. Louis Rams in preseason.

The Jets went through a whirlwind of changes in the offseason, first hiring former Baltimore defensive coordinator Rex Ryan as their new head coach and then signing free agent defenders Bart Scott and Jim Leonhard (also from the Ravens).

But perhaps the biggest move the Jets made this offseason was trading up in April’s draft to select USC quarterback Mark Sanchez with the fifth overall pick. Sanchez has turned heads so far this summer and will have the opportunity to win New York’s starting quarterback job in preseason.

The Rams also made a ton of changes this offseason, including hiring a new coach themselves. Steve Spagnuolo was plucked away from the Giants this offseason and has the unenviable task of trying to turn the misfortunes of a St. Louis team that finished with the second worst record in the league last year.

Spagnuolo will be helped by some of the offseason moves the Rams made, including signing free agent center Jason Brown and the selections of Jason Smith and James Laurinaitis in April’s draft. With the improvements on the offensive line, the Rams hope that running back Steven Jackson will have a productive ’09 season.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com have made the Jets 3.5-point favorites over the Rams entering Friday’s game. The over/under total has also been established at 33.

While looking at the trends for this game, the Rams are 7-14 against the spread as a road dog of 7 or fewer points. The Jets have compiled a 5-1 over record if the total is between 32.5 and 35.

Friday’s game between the Rams and the Jets will be played 7:00PM ET on the NFL Network.
