Dodgers making push for Lester?
LOS ANGELES, CA (The Spread) – Could the Dodgers be making a push to sign free agent Jon Lester?
Multiple sources connected to teams interested in Lester tell Rob Bradford and Alex Speier of WEEI.com that the Dodgers are a “late entrant into the sweepstakes.” According to the site, the club is making a “hard, late charge” to sign the free agent pitcher, who is also been courted by the Cubs, Red Sox and Dodgers.
On Wednesday night Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reported that a fourth team is involved in the bidding for Lester, so perhaps the two reports are connected. The Dodgers may also be making a late push just to drive up the price for other bidders, including their most hated rivals and division foe, the Giants.
On perhaps a related note, Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that the Dodgers may make Zack Greinke available for trade this winter. Per a source, some within the Dodgers organization are concerned Greinke may opt out of his contract following next season and thus become a free agent. Maybe the Dodgers are trying to think ahead by signing Lester, who could be viewed as Greinke’s replacement.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Dodgers are 17/2 to win the 2015 World Series, putting them right behind the Red Sox, who are favored at 8/1.
