Nationals stumble again
Washington suffered its third straight home loss Sunday night as it fell 7-1 to Houston to fall into a 3-2 deficit in the World Series. The Nationals trailed 4-0 through four innings and were unable to recover. Juan Soto paced the Washington offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Yan Gomes ended the contest 1-for-3, while Howie Kendrick went 1-for-4. Joe Ross, who was the surprise starter in place of Max Scherzer (back/neck spasms), took the loss as he allowed four earned runs on five hits with one strikeout and two walks over five innings. Stephen Strasburg will start tonight after giving up two earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in a 12-3 Game 2 win at the Astros.
Cole, Astros roll to win
Houston secured a 7-1 win Sunday night at Washington in Game 5 of the World Series to take a 3-2 series lead. Gerrit Cole picked up the win as he allowed one earned runs on three hits with nine strikeouts and two walks over seven innings. Houston scored two runs in the second and two in the fourth to take control in the early going. Yordan Alvarez led the offense as he finished 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Carlos Correa ended the night 1-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs. George Springer was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two walks, two runs and two RBIs. Justin Verlander will take the mound tonight for the Astros after he surrendered four earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and three walks over six innings in the 12-3 home loss in Game 2 of the World Series.
MLB Betting Trends

Prediction:
It’s a shame the Nats did not have Scherzer available to start Game 5, but with the way Cole threw it might not have mattered. Strasburg has been better than Scherzer in the postseason and I expect another dynamic effort out of him tonight. He’s shut down the Dodgers, the Cardinals and done well against the Astros in the playoffs. He’s very capable of one more outstanding effort. Verlander wasn’t great in Game 2 and has been a little shaky in the playoffs overall. What’s the World Series without taking a chance? I’m going in on Washington tonight to force a Game 7. Look for possible NL MVP Anthony Rendon to come up with a huge hit or two along the way.
