Gurriel HR helps put away Red Sox
Yuli Gurriel hit a 3-run home run as part of a four-run ninth inning as Houston added insurance runs en route to a 7-2 victory Saturday night at Boston. It was the only hit for Gurriel in five at-bats. George Springer went 1-for-3 with two walks and two RBIs from the leadoff spot. Alex Bregman was 0-for-1, but walked three times and scored two runs. Carlos Correa finished 1-for-3 with two walks, a run and an RBI. Josh Reddick was 1-for-3 with a solo home run plus a walk. Justin Verlander picked up the win as he allowed two earned runs on two hits with six strikeouts and four walks over six innings.
Red Sox held to three hits
Steve Pearce finished 1-for-4 and scored a run in Saturday’s loss to the Astros. Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts each contributed a hit in four at-bats. Jackie Bradley Jr. was 0-for-2 with a walk and a run. Mitch Moreland walked and drove in a run as a pinch-hitter. Joe Kelly took the loss in relief as he allowed one earned run on one hit with one strikeout in 1 2/3 innings.
Gerrit Cole (15-5, 2.88 ERA) will start today for the Astros, while the Red Sox will counter with David Price (16-7, 3.58).
MLB Betting Trends
Houston
The under is 7-3 in the last 10 Astros road games. Houston is 41-13 in its last 54 road games.
Boston
The over is 13-3-1 in the last 17 Red Sox games overall. The over is 15-5 in the last 19 meetings in Boston.
Prediction:
Houston is playing great baseball right now and has the often-dominant Cole on the mound. It should still be in pretty good shape with its bullpen, while the offense has many lefty-mashers. While Boston has had a fantastic season and has been oustanding at home, it does have a shaky bullpen that has already faltered once in this season. If Price isn’t super sharp, the Red Sox have serious problems.
